With the start of November came the start of a new club at CHS. The Christian Club held its first meeting at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 5 in Room 141. The club was founded by sisters Hailey and Kayla Smith, a senior and sophomore of Lake Como. The club’s adviser is math teacher Scott Stengele.

According to Kayla Smith, she and her sister created the club to provide Christian students with a voice.

“I think it’s important to have this club because there are so many other groups going on at school that Christians should be able to have a presence as well,” said Kayla. “It’s essential to share what we’re all about and evangelize to others.”

The meeting began with its 10 attendees, along with Hailey and Kayla, joining in a prayer of thanks for the opportunity to establish the club.

Hailey led the assembled students in a Bible reading of Luke 2:1-20, which chronicled the birth of Jesus. She explained that this passage is “what we, as Christians have as a basis for our religion, as it describes the coming of Jesus, our Savior, to Earth.” Attendees further discussed their thoughts on the reading.

Closing the meeting with another prayer of thanks, Kayla dismissed those who attended and invited all to return.

Hailey said she hopes the club continues to grow week by week.

“As long as there’s a faithful few coming out every week, I’ll be happy. And as long as we can all read the Bible together and pray, that’s a wonderful thing,” said Hailey.

Sophomore Karly Nolan of Bradley Beach said the meeting was refreshing, and she would most likely return.

“It was enjoyable, and I think it’s great to have a club like this at school. I’m really impressed that we’re able to do that here at CHS.”
