The Class of 2016 hosted the annual Coffeehouse on Friday, Nov. 21. The event gave students an opportunity to showcase their talents to fellow students, parents and teachers.

The Class of 2015 changed the event’s name to ‘Friday Night Lineup’ last year, but the current junior class council chose to stick with the traditional name. The junior class council consists of Sarah Takash, Johnny Callaghan, Cayla Harris, Jane Maloney and Mithu Sankaranarayanan.

“I wanted more of a relaxed feel, not more of a talent show feel,” said council member Johnny Callaghan of Wall, who was one of the organizers of the event.

Junior Shane Nolan of Bradley Beach and Callaghan were the evening’s hosts. The pair introduced each act and entertained the audience between acts by reading tweets from both CHS students and alumni who used the hashtag #chscoffeehouse.

Performances included acoustic covers of popular songs, magic shows and poetry readings.

The night concluded with performances from seniors, who were participating in their final Coffee House. Senior Evan Noone of Middletown performed his take on the “cups and balls” magic trick, while seniors Kevin Milton of Hazlet and Jake Gray of Wall performed an acoustic rendition of the song “The General.”

In addition to being a highly anticipated event around CHS, Coffeehouse is always an important fundraiser for the junior class. Class adviser and history teacher Bill Clark praised the council for their hard work in organizing the event.

“This is one of the easier events because the class officers have matured and done such as great job … These guys are really awesome. I’m kind of proud of them, to be honest,” said Clark.

“Coffee House went beautifully. I cried like six times. I’m in love with everyone at this school,” said senior Alyssa Matlosz of Tinton Falls, who helped plan Friday Night Lineup the previous year.
