On Wed. April 6, freelance disc jockey, Jameson Harvey, came to CHS to speak to the radio club and radio students students about his career.  Harvey, also known as DJ Prestige, has been a longtime friend of CHS radio teacher Bill Bengle, since they worked side by side as co-DJs at the Stockton College radio station.

Early on in his career, Harvey toured with a rock band signed with Atlantic records.  After being on the road, Harvey realized that he did not enjoy the long months away from home while on the road, and chose to pursue a career as a solo DJ.  Harvey’s portfolio includes a wide range of events, from local music gigs to Victoria’s Secret corporate events.

Harvey said his love for vinyl music started at an early age.

“When I was a kid, I was always into music,” Harvey said.“My parents always had music around, and me and my siblings each had our own record players.”

In addition to regular gigs, Harvey runs his own social media platforms and created his own blog called Flea Market Funk. He coined the name Flea Market Funk by reflecting on the start of his career, which he spent digging through bins at flea markets to expand his set list. He uses his social media and blogs to share his love for music with his followers.

Sophomore Radio club student Jonathan Slovak of Spring Lake Heights said Harvey gave an interesting look on the world of disc jockeying.

“He seems to know a lot about the DJing industry, and he seems to really love what he does,” said Slovak.
